Mission Statement

What is are mission statement going to be?

I think we need to work on a mission statement also.

-Creating art and events for the community

The purpose of the group, from what I gathered, is to meet local artists and to work collaboratively to get our art seen by the community on a consistent basis. I'm going to steal Jake's idea and add it with mine. Let's start with this and revise it as we go.

(Name of group) is a group of Central Iowa artists whose goals are to meet other local artists, and to work collaboratively with the community and other artists to organize art events within the Central Iowa community with the purpose of making our art known to the public.

I don't like how "with the purpose of making our art known to the public" sounds, but that was a central key to the forming of the group, so I think that is important not to lose focus of.

Feel free to agree, disagree, and/or make suggestions. The mission statement is going to define what we do - give us direction.

- To encourage community interaction with local artists

-To promote visual art in Des Moines by local artists

-To advance visual art in the Des Moines area through community interaction and social events.

-To grow and encourage community participation in the local art scene through art showings and social events.

I posted this on home page thread too, so if you read that one, nothing new.

I took out "entities" because it could be individuals, such as the landlord of Tim's building. I wasn't sold on the "enhancing the art scene" so I inserted "to create more opportunites for atists to display their work".

Just my ideas. I'll roll with whatever.

If it was up to me I think we are artist not English majors we need something that fits are name as well. I think we are getting way to boring and wordy. I think under 10 words would be a good goal just my thoughts. I am an artist I hate bureaucracy I think its against artist way of being.

I think everyone has great ideas! I'm with Jake. We don't want to get too wordy or complicated. In an effort to focus in on a consistent statement, let's have the statement at the top of my post be the base statement, and then post alternative ones with your ideas inserted in the above statement, or with words taken out. But, try to make sure it uses a lot of the same verbage. I'm not trying to be selfish by using mine. I'm taking the base idea we got from our meeting Wednesday night. We are making this too hard.

I mean, maybe we do need to spice it up. The actual goals and mission can be explained in further detail on the website and whatnot.
