Metro Arts event - May 12
Hi everyone,
I think we should make plans to attend this -individually, but we can "meet up" there- it can be a good opportunity for networking. I RSVPed on myspace and listed myself as having guests. Let me know if you are going to plan on attending.
Metro Arts is bringing together artists of all disciplines to pose the questions: What are artists' current needs? and How can Metro Arts help?
Metro Arts would like to bring together artists of all disciplines to pose the questions:

Three years ago Metro Arts Alliance held a similar focus group, and from it came many developments in our programming. Much has changed in the DSM art scene, and we need to know how we can help you now.
We have many exciting new ideas, but we need your input on what you think it is important that we do.
We invite you to join us for food and discussion:
Monday, May 12 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Des Moines Botanical Center, 909 Robert D. Ray Drive.

Re: Metro Arts event - May 12
I can't make it tonight, but I would love to hear what it was like. Hopefully someone who is attending can give us an idea of the topics that are covered.
Thanks,
Thor

Re: Metro Arts event - May 12
Well, I did some networking both for the group and for myself. I invited a few art students from Drake to come to a meeting sometime - one of whom is a sculptor. I'd like to see 1 or 2 sculpture/pottery people join our group, as that is something we don't have yet. I also talked to a musician who has both an acoustic band and a jazz arrangement, and he is interested in playing a show with us in the future, but will not be available for the June 28th show.
In one of our early meetings, I know we had talked about the possibility of eventually creating an "art walk" type of event. We discussed the possibility of doing something similar last night. This is in the very beginning stages, and Metro Arts is going to need volunteers to help with planning. I volunteered.
Another topic was grants for arts. I'm not interested in grants, so anyone who is will just have to contact Metro Arts. Again, they need volunteers for outlining a re-vamped grant program.
A possible program was discussed for having professional artists visit area colleges to talk to the art students about the real world. This is something I'd be interested in.
That's all I can think of. I guess Metro Arts is planning on having another one of these meetings later in the year. Oh and Cat told me to be sure to bring them some of our postcards for the 6/28 show when we have them.
