Minutes from April 2, 2008 Meeting at Mars Café

People attending: Jake S., Nancy F., Jim G., Jon B., Steve B., Brad V.G., John B.

· Group name
o “Diversified Artists Group of Central Iowa” was the winner of the forum poll
§ Decided to come up with a catchier, more fun name by April 7
· Use adjectives and adverbs to “spice it up”
· “Paint Pushers” was referenced
· Idea of “Artists Anonymous” was tossed about

· Mission statement
o Goal is to have one done by April 10
o Thread is on the forum to post ideas
§ Will take ideas from forum and finalize one at April 9 meeting

· Website
o Jake is going to work on creating this, but is waiting on name of the group
o Creative control of site is left to Jake’s professional opinion
§ Not too edgy, but not plain
o Group site will be around $5/month
o E-commerce site will be 15%-20% commission to Jake as only fee
o Jim is going work on a MySpace for the group

· Agenda
o Will have agenda thread on forum to add ideas
o Will have agenda to be followed at meetings to keep group focused and meetings short

· Meeting
o Next meeting date is Wednesday, April 9 at 6:30 at Mars Café

· Showings
o Around May 1st, will be able to display items at Dunbar and Jones, a landscaping company on E. 6th and Grand.
§ They will let us display and will take money for 10% commission.
§ Only open Monday – Friday
o Once website is up and cards printed, find a winery to do an evening showing and wine tasting at.

· John Busbee from KFMG radio helped us focus on some immediate and short-term goals
o Listen to KFMG991.ORG for streaming audio
o He will help us to promote the initial one – two showings/art walk-type events we plan.
o Suggested searching for matching grants from Iowa Arts Council after have the initial two dates set-up for art walk-type, monthly events planned.

· Art Walk-type events
o Monthly event/destination people want to come to
o Hold in Woolworth building – around $200/night (Kirk Blunk is contact person)
o Try to hold in conjunction with galleries’ receptions or other art events
o Invite a winery to participate for wine sampling
o Invite local acoustic musician(s)
o Order hors d'oeuvres
o Have at least ten art participants
o KFMG will help promote the initial and possibly do a remote broadcast for exposure
o 5-9 PM
o Be persistent. Make at least a six-twelve month commitment to idea
o Have postcard-style cards with group’s information to pass out and display with event information
o Have a goal date of June 1 to have at least the first art walk-style event planned and organized.
